Black Stars captain Jordan Ayew has expressed confidence in Ghana’s ability to compete against England as the team prepares for a crucial Group L encounter at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Speaking ahead of the highly anticipated fixture, Ayew said the Black Stars are approaching the game with belief and determination, insisting that the squad is focused on delivering a strong performance against one of the tournament’s favourites.
“We believe in ourselves,” Ayew said. “England is a very good team with quality players, but we also have a strong squad. We have worked hard to get here, and we are confident in our abilities.”
The Ghana captain emphasized that the team’s morale is high following their opening victory over Panama, a result that has boosted confidence within the camp ahead of the challenging test against the Three Lions.
According to Ayew, the Black Stars are fully aware of the quality England possesses but will not be intimidated by their opponents’ reputation.
“We respect England, but football is played on the pitch. We have prepared well, and we know what is at stake. Every player is ready to give everything for the nation,” he stated.
The experienced forward also praised the unity within the squad, describing teamwork and discipline as key factors behind Ghana’s positive start to the tournament. He noted that the players remain committed to executing the tactical plans laid out by the coaching staff.
Ayew further called on Ghanaians both at home and abroad to continue supporting the team as they seek to secure another positive result in the competition.
“The support from Ghanaians has been incredible. We feel their energy and encouragement wherever we go. We will continue fighting for them and making them proud,” he added.
The clash against England national football team is expected to play a significant role in shaping the standings in Group L, with both sides eager to strengthen their chances of reaching the knockout stage.
As anticipation builds ahead of the encounter, Ayew remains optimistic that Ghana can rise to the occasion, stressing that belief, determination, and teamwork will be crucial if the Black Stars are to secure a positive result against England.
