A passionate appeal has been made by the Paramount Chief of Jirapa for urgent government intervention to address the growing healthcare needs of residents in the area, with a specific call for the construction of a new regional hospital.
The traditional leader, speaking at a recent community gathering, expressed deep concern over the current state of healthcare delivery in Jirapa and its surrounding communities. According to him, existing health facilities are overstretched, under-resourced, and unable to adequately serve the increasing population in the region.
He emphasized that residents often have to travel long distances to access specialized medical care, a situation that poses serious risks, particularly in emergency cases. Pregnant women, children, and the elderly, he noted, are among the most vulnerable, frequently facing delays that can result in preventable complications or even loss of life.
The chief stressed that the establishment of a fully equipped regional hospital in Jirapa would not only ease the burden on existing facilities but also improve access to quality healthcare services across the Upper West Region. He added that such a project would boost confidence in the local healthcare system and reduce the need for referrals to faraway hospitals.
In his appeal, he called on the government to prioritize the project as part of its broader commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure nationwide. He also urged stakeholders, including development partners and private investors, to support efforts aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery in the region.
Residents and opinion leaders in the area have echoed similar concerns, highlighting the urgent need for improved medical infrastructure to cater to the growing demands of the population.
The Paramount Chief concluded by expressing hope that the government would heed the call and take swift action to ensure that the people of Jirapa have access to the quality healthcare they deserve.
