President John Dramani Mahama has expressed satisfaction with the progress of work on the reconstruction of the La General Hospital, assuring Ghanaians that the project is on track for completion by 2027.
The President made the remarks during an inspection visit to the project site in Accra on Friday, April 24, 2026, where he assessed the pace and quality of work being undertaken.
Speaking to the media after touring the facility, President Mahama commended the contractor and workers for the steady progress made so far, noting that the project appears to be moving in line with the revised timeline.
He stressed the government’s commitment to ensuring that the reconstruction does not face further delays, indicating that adequate funding arrangements have been put in place to sustain the pace of work until completion.
President Mahama revealed that the new hospital is expected to be completed by November 2027, adding that the facility will play a critical role in addressing healthcare delivery challenges in the capital.
He noted that the demolition of the old hospital created a significant gap in healthcare services for residents in La and surrounding communities, making the timely completion of the project a top priority for his administration.
According to him, the reconstructed hospital will include modern facilities and is expected to add about 160 beds to Ghana’s healthcare system, helping to ease pressure on existing hospitals, especially during emergencies.
The President further assured that funds will be released promptly to avoid the setbacks that previously stalled the project, emphasizing that government remains determined to deliver the facility within the stipulated timeframe.
The La General Hospital, a key public health facility serving parts of Accra, was demolished in 2020 for redevelopment but experienced delays due to funding challenges.
With renewed momentum and government backing, authorities are optimistic that the project will be completed as scheduled, restoring essential healthcare services to the people of La and its environs.
