Cybersecurity expert Dr Albert Antwi-Boasiako has urged students, professionals, and institutions to shift their focus from largely theoretical learning to the acquisition of practical, hands-on skills to remain relevant in today’s fast-evolving digital landscape.

Speaking at a recent engagement on digital transformation and workforce readiness, Dr Antwi-Boasiako emphasized that the demands of the modern economy require individuals who can apply knowledge effectively, rather than those who rely solely on academic theory.

According to him, the rapid advancement of technology—particularly in areas such as cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and data analytics—has made it imperative for educational systems to adapt. He noted that employers are increasingly prioritizing problem-solving abilities, technical competence, and real-world experience over traditional academic credentials.

“The digital age rewards those who can do, not just those who know,” he said. “We must begin to train and equip our young people with practical skills that can be directly applied in solving real-life challenges.”

Dr Antwi-Boasiako also called on educational institutions to revise their curricula to include more project-based learning, internships, and industry collaborations. He stressed that bridging the gap between academia and industry would better prepare graduates for the job market and reduce unemployment among the youth.

He further encouraged young people to take personal responsibility for their development by exploring online learning platforms, engaging in continuous self-improvement, and staying updated with emerging trends in technology.

Highlighting the growing importance of cybersecurity, he warned that as Ghana continues to digitize its economy, the need for skilled professionals in the field will only increase. He therefore urged stakeholders to invest in capacity building and create opportunities for practical training in digital skills.

Dr Antwi-Boasiako concluded by reiterating that the future belongs to those who are adaptable, innovative, and equipped with the right skills to thrive in a technology-driven world.
