Senior Presidential Advisor, Joyce Bawah Mogtari, has expressed strong optimism about the transformative impact of the government’s flagship infrastructure agenda, stating that the Big Push roads programme and the expansion of Kotoka International Airport will significantly boost Ghana’s economic prospects.
According to her, the dual focus on improving road connectivity and expanding aviation infrastructure is a strategic move aimed at unlocking productivity, enhancing trade, and positioning Ghana as a competitive hub within the West African sub-region.
Speaking in an interview, Madam Mogtari noted that the Big Push initiative, which prioritises the construction and rehabilitation of major road networks across the country, will ease the movement of goods and people, reduce travel time, and lower transportation costs. She explained that efficient road infrastructure is critical for linking production centres to markets, particularly in agriculture and manufacturing.
She added that improved road networks would also stimulate local economies by opening up previously underserved communities, creating jobs, and encouraging private sector investment.
On aviation, she highlighted the ongoing expansion of Kotoka International Airport—often referred to as AIA—as a key pillar in Ghana’s economic transformation agenda. She said the project will enhance passenger experience, increase cargo handling capacity, and attract more international airlines and investors to the country.
“The combination of world-class road infrastructure and a modernised airport will not only improve mobility but also strengthen Ghana’s position as a gateway to West Africa,” she stated.
Madam Mogtari further indicated that the expansion of the airport is expected to drive tourism growth, facilitate international trade, and boost revenue generation through increased traffic and logistics activities.
She emphasised that infrastructure development remains a cornerstone of sustainable economic growth, noting that countries that invest strategically in transport systems tend to experience higher levels of industrialisation and competitiveness.
While acknowledging that such large-scale projects require substantial investment, she maintained that the long-term economic benefits far outweigh the initial costs. She called for continued support from stakeholders to ensure the timely completion of the projects.
Her remarks come amid ongoing national discussions on infrastructure development and its role in driving economic recovery and long-term growth. She reiterated that with the successful implementation of the Big Push roads programme and the expansion of Kotoka International Airport, Ghana is well-positioned to achieve significant economic transformation in the years ahead.
