President of the Ghana Rugby Football Union, Herbert Mensah, has hailed Africa’s increased representation at the FIFA World Cup, describing it as clear evidence of the continent’s growing influence and quality in global football.
Speaking on the significance of Africa’s expanded participation, Mensah said the increase in World Cup slots reflects the steady progress African football has made over the years, with national teams consistently proving they can compete against the world’s best.
According to him, the decision to allocate more places to African nations is a recognition of the immense talent, competitiveness and development taking place across the continent.
“This is proof that African football has come of age,” Mensah stated. “Our players are excelling in the biggest leagues around the world, while our national teams continue to show they can compete at the highest level. Mensah also urged African football associations to take advantage of the increased opportunities by investing in grassroots development, coaching education and modern football infrastructure to ensure sustained success in future tournaments.
