A leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Stephen Asamoah-Boateng Addai Nimo, has thrown his support behind former National Chairman Paul Afoko, describing him as the party’s strongest option for restoring unity and rebuilding internal cohesion.
According to Addai Nimo, the NPP is at a critical stage where healing divisions and fostering reconciliation should take precedence over factional interests. He argued that Paul Afoko possesses the experience, temperament and leadership qualities needed to bring together members from the various camps within the party.
Speaking on the party’s current state, Addai Nimo noted that recent internal disagreements have highlighted the need for a leader capable of promoting inclusiveness and rebuilding trust among party faithful.
He maintained that Afoko’s return to a prominent leadership role could help bridge longstanding differences and reposition the NPP ahead of future political contests.
“The party needs a unifier at this moment. We must move beyond the divisions of the past and focus on rebuilding a stronger and more united NPP,” he said.
Addai Nimo further urged delegates and party members to prioritise competence, reconciliation and the long-term interests of the party when making leadership decisions.
His endorsement comes at a time when discussions about the NPP’s future leadership have intensified, with several influential figures and party members expressing differing views on the direction the party should take following recent internal challenges.
Political observers believe the debate over the party’s leadership is likely to shape preparations for upcoming internal elections and influence the NPP’s strategy as it seeks to strengthen its base and present a united front.
The comments have added fresh momentum to ongoing conversations within the party about reconciliation, leadership renewal and the need to restore unity after a period of heightened internal tensions.
