The U.S. Embassy in Ghana has announced the release of 1,000 additional visa interview slots in Accra, in a move aimed at reducing appointment backlogs and facilitating travel for qualified applicants.
According to the Embassy, the newly opened slots are expected to benefit a wide range of applicants, including students, business travellers, tourists, and individuals seeking medical treatment in the United States. The development comes amid growing demand for U.S. visas in Ghana, particularly following delays that accumulated over recent years.
Applicants Urged to Act Quickly
Officials have urged prospective applicants to regularly check the official visa appointment portal and book available dates promptly, as the slots are expected to be filled quickly.
The Embassy also cautioned applicants against engaging the services of unauthorized intermediaries or “visa fixers,” stressing that appointments can only be secured through the official system. It reiterated its commitment to maintaining a transparent and fair visa application process.
Efforts to Improve Consular Services
The release of the additional slots forms part of broader efforts by the U.S. Embassy in Ghana to enhance consular services and improve processing efficiency.
Over the past year, the Embassy has taken steps to expand interview capacity and streamline operations to better meet rising demand in Accra, one of the busiest consular posts in the region.
Applicants are advised to ensure that all required documentation is complete before their interview date to avoid delays or rescheduling.
The Embassy reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening people-to-people ties between Ghana and the United States through lawful travel and educational exchanges.
