Operatives from National Security have arrested several traders in Kumasi for allegedly selling a dangerous chemical substance popularly known as “Madala.”
The arrests followed a targeted operation aimed at clamping down on the circulation of the hazardous product, which authorities say poses serious risks to public health and safety. The substance is believed to be highly corrosive and potentially harmful when mishandled or improperly stored.
Sources indicate that the traders were picked up during a swoop at selected markets and chemical shops in Kumasi after intelligence suggested the product was being sold without proper authorisation and safety controls. Officials say investigations are ongoing to determine the source of the chemical and whether it was imported or locally distributed through unapproved channels.
Security officials have warned the public against purchasing or handling unverified chemical substances, stressing that the misuse of such products could lead to severe injuries, environmental damage, or even loss of life.
The suspects are expected to assist with investigations as authorities intensify efforts to prevent the sale and distribution of hazardous materials in local markets.
