The Ministry of Trade has strongly condemned the recent terrorist attack on Ghanaian tomato traders in Burkina Faso, describing it as “shocking and unacceptable.”
Officials said the attack, which left several traders injured, underscores the rising security threats faced by Ghanaian businesses operating in the sub-region. The Ministry called for urgent action from regional authorities to ensure the safety of traders and the continuity of cross-border trade.
In a statement, the Ministry emphasized that Ghana remains committed to protecting its citizens abroad and will work closely with Burkina Faso authorities to investigate the incident and provide support to the affected traders.
“The government urges all regional partners to strengthen security measures along trade corridors to prevent such attacks in the future,” the statement added.
This incident has sparked renewed calls for coordinated West African security initiatives to safeguard the livelihoods of small and medium-scale traders, particularly those in the agricultural sector.
