The Member of Parliament for Nkwanta South, Geoffrey Kini, has urged the contractor responsible for the Bontibor Bridge to promptly return to the site and address the repairs needed for the damaged structure.

Constructed last year, the bridge has sustained considerable damage due to heavy rainfall, which has left residents without access to essential services and has impeded transportation. The Bontibor Bridge is a vital connection for the surrounding communities, enabling the movement of goods.

Since its award in 2016, the bridge has not undergone significant improvements, and its collapse has disrupted daily life, raising concerns regarding the safety and accessibility of alternative routes.

During a site visit with Nkwanta South Municipal Chief Executive Joseph Antwi Awal and municipal National Disaster Management Organisation Director Gesuokon Bright, MP Kini expressed his disappointment regarding the substandard work performed by the contractor. He emphasized that the residents of Bontibor, Salifu-Krom, and neighboring communities deserve better and should not be left isolated due to inaction.

The MP also made a request to the Minister of Roads to allocate funds that would allow the contractor to return swiftly and perform the necessary repairs to ease the hardships faced by local residents.

In an interview with Adom News, residents voiced their frustration over the ongoing disruption, underscoring the challenges they face in accessing markets and healthcare facilities as a result of the bridge’s deteriorating condition.
