Renowned Ghanaian business leader and statesman, Sir Sam Jonah, has praised the integrity and leadership record of Ghana’s Vice President, Mahamudu Bawumia, stating that the latter has served in high public office for years without being tainted by scandal.
Speaking at a public event, Sir Sam Jonah commended Dr. Bawumia’s commitment to public service, describing his record in government as one marked by discipline, transparency and dedication to national development.
According to the respected businessman, Ghana’s political landscape often faces challenges with allegations of misconduct and corruption, making it noteworthy when a public official serves for a long period without any major controversy.
“Dr. Bawumia has served in public office for several years and, to the best of my knowledge, not a single scandal has been associated with his name,” Sir Sam Jonah said.
He stressed that such a record should be recognised and appreciated, particularly at a time when citizens are increasingly demanding accountability and integrity from public officials.
Sir Sam Jonah, who has played a significant role in Ghana’s corporate and governance landscape, noted that leadership credibility is built not only on policy ideas but also on personal conduct and public trust.
He added that maintaining a clean reputation in public office requires strong values and discipline, qualities he believes the Vice President has demonstrated over the years.
Dr. Bawumia has served as Vice President of Ghana since 2017, working alongside President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. During this period, he has been closely associated with several government initiatives, particularly in the areas of digitalisation, economic policy and financial inclusion.
Sir Sam Jonah urged political leaders and public officials to prioritise integrity and transparency in governance, saying such qualities are essential for strengthening public confidence in state institutions.
He also called on the younger generation of leaders to learn from examples of public service that emphasise accountability and ethical leadership.
His remarks have since sparked discussions in political and public circles, with supporters of the Vice President pointing to his role in various policy initiatives and critics continuing to debate the broader performance of the government.
Despite differing political views, Sir Sam Jonah maintained that recognising individuals for their personal record of integrity is important for encouraging higher standards in public life.
