Senegalese authorities have arrested 14 individuals suspected to be part of an alleged paedophile network with links to France, in a major operation targeting child sexual exploitation.
According to security sources, the arrests followed months of investigations and intelligence-sharing between Senegalese law enforcement agencies and their international counterparts. The suspects are alleged to have been involved in recruiting, exploiting and abusing minors, with some activities reportedly connected to networks operating outside Senegal.
Officials said the operation underscores the government’s commitment to combating child abuse and dismantling transnational criminal syndicates that prey on vulnerable children. Investigators are said to be examining digital evidence, financial transactions and cross-border communications to establish the full extent of the network and identify additional accomplices.
The case has sparked public outrage in Senegal, with child rights advocates calling for swift prosecution and the toughest possible penalties for those found guilty. They have also urged authorities to strengthen protective systems for children and intensify monitoring of suspected trafficking and exploitation rings.
French authorities are reportedly cooperating with the investigation as part of ongoing efforts to address the alleged international links. Both countries have reiterated their commitment to working together to combat crimes against children.
Senegalese prosecutors are expected to formally charge the suspects as investigations continue, with officials assuring the public that justice will be pursued without fear or favour.
