The National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sammi Awuku, has strongly rejected claims suggesting that the campaign team of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia engaged in vote-buying during the party’s recent flagbearer primaries.
Speaking in an exclusive interview, Awuku described the allegations as “baseless and unfounded”, stressing that the party’s internal elections were conducted in a transparent and democratic manner.
“There is no evidence to support any claim that our campaign engaged in vote-buying,” Awuku stated. “These accusations are purely speculative and are meant to distract from the work and vision of our candidates.”
Awuku further emphasized the importance of maintaining unity and discipline within the party, urging members and supporters to focus on policies and development issues rather than being sidetracked by unverified claims.
The party organiser also reassured the public that the NPP remains committed to free, fair, and transparent primaries, adding that internal elections are carefully monitored to prevent malpractice.
Political analysts suggest that the vote-buying allegations may be an attempt to politicize internal party elections and influence public perception ahead of the 2028 general elections. However, Awuku stressed that such narratives should not overshadow the party’s broader mission of national development.
As the NPP consolidates support for its flagbearer, Awuku called on party members and Ghanaians to resist spreading unverified information that could undermine the credibility of the party’s electoral processes.
