Veteran Nollywood actress and filmmaker Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde has opened up on her decision not to resort to dancing on social media as a strategy to promote her movies, despite the growing trend in the film industry.
Speaking in a recent interview, the award-winning actress stressed that while she respects promotional strategies adopted by others, she believes every creative should stay true to their personality and values. According to Omotola, dancing online simply to chase trends does not align with who she is or how she chooses to market her work.
She explained that storytelling, quality acting, and strong narratives should remain the core selling points of any film, rather than viral moments designed purely for attention. Omotola added that audiences should be drawn to movies because of compelling content and meaningful performances, not just catchy dances on social media platforms.
The actress further noted that promotion should be authentic and reflect the essence of the project being advertised. For her, engaging audiences through thoughtful conversations, interviews, and previews of the movie itself feels more genuine than participating in trends she is not comfortable with.
Omotola’s comments have sparked widespread discussion online, with many fans praising her for standing by her principles, while others debate the role of social media trends in today’s film promotion. Regardless of the reactions, the actress remains firm in her belief that authenticity and quality should always come first in filmmaking.
