The Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA) has admitted that 17 recruits were engaged without following the required recruitment procedures, raising fresh concerns about transparency and compliance within the institution.
Addressing the issue during a stakeholder engagement, the NSA boss acknowledged that the appointments did not fully adhere to established public service protocols. He explained that the matter came to light during an internal review aimed at streamlining operations and ensuring accountability within the Authority.
According to him, while the recruits were brought on board to address urgent staffing needs, proper documentation and approval processes were not completed before their engagement. He described the oversight as regrettable and assured that steps are being taken to rectify the situation.

The Director General emphasized that corrective measures are already underway, including a review of recruitment guidelines and strengthening internal controls to prevent a recurrence. He also indicated that the 17 recruits will be subjected to the appropriate vetting and regularization processes in line with public service regulations.
The admission has sparked public debate, with some stakeholders calling for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the appointments. Others have urged the Authority to use the incident as an opportunity to reinforce transparency and rebuild public trust.
The NSA leadership maintains that it remains committed to good governance, accountability, and adherence to due process in all its administrative operations moving forward.
