Calls are mounting for the appointment of a top-level coach to lead the Black Stars following the departure of Otto Addo, with a former board chairman of the National Sports Authority insisting that the next appointment must be based purely on competence and not personal connections.
Speaking in reaction to Addo’s exit, the former NSA board chairman emphasised that Ghana must seize the opportunity to rebuild the national team’s technical direction by bringing in a world-class coach capable of competing at the highest level of international football. He stressed that the selection process should be transparent and merit-based.
According to him, Ghanaian football has reached a stage where decisions regarding the national team must prioritise performance, tactical expertise and international experience. “There should be no nepotism in the appointment of the next Black Stars coach. Ghana deserves a world-class manager who can take the team forward,” he stated.
His comments come shortly after the Ghana Football Association parted ways with Addo, a move that has sparked widespread debate among fans, analysts and former sports administrators about the future direction of the senior national team.
The former NSA official noted that the Black Stars remain one of Africa’s most respected football teams and therefore require a coach with a strong track record at club or international level. He argued that appointing the right technical head will be crucial as Ghana prepares for upcoming international competitions and qualifiers.
He further urged the football authorities to conduct a thorough search process, engaging football experts and stakeholders to ensure that the best candidate is selected. According to him, the decision will have long-term implications for the development of the national team and the confidence of supporters.
The departure of Addo has opened discussions across the football community about potential replacements, with many observers calling for a strategic approach that focuses on rebuilding the team’s playing philosophy and competitiveness on the global stage.
The Ghana Football Association is expected to outline the next steps in the coming days as it begins the process of identifying a new head coach for the Black Stars.
