The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations and Surveillance (NAIMOS) taskforce has successfully arrested key galamsey operators in Bekwai after rejecting a bribe of GHC119,000 intended to halt enforcement actions.
Officials confirmed that the suspects, identified as major players in illegal mining activities, attempted to influence the taskforce with the large sum of cash. The swift refusal by NAIMOS led to immediate arrests and the seizure of equipment used in illicit mining operations.
The operation underscores the government’s commitment to combating illegal mining and maintaining integrity within law enforcement ranks, officials emphasized.
Authorities have called on communities to support ongoing efforts to eliminate galamsey, warning that future attempts to bribe officials will be met with strict legal consequences.
