The Minority in Parliament has called on the government to implement a clear and structured plan to address the GHS7 billion arrears owed under the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF).
According to the Minority, the mounting arrears have hindered the ability of local assemblies to deliver essential services and implement development projects across the country. They stressed that delays in disbursing the funds have created financial strain on assemblies, affecting education, health, sanitation, and infrastructure initiatives at the grassroots level.
Speaking in Parliament, Minority spokespersons urged the government to provide a detailed timeline and strategy for clearing the arrears, emphasizing transparency and accountability in the process. They argued that an actionable plan would restore public confidence and enable district assemblies to fulfill their mandates effectively.
The Minority further highlighted the importance of ensuring that future allocations of the DACF are timely and consistent, warning that continued delays could undermine local governance and slow socio-economic development in communities nationwide.
The call comes amid growing public concern over stalled development projects in several districts, with local authorities increasingly appealing for urgent government intervention to release the owed funds.
