Ghanaian rapper Samuel Adu Frimpong, popularly known as Medikal, has been unveiled as the official ambassador for the National Youth Authority’s anti-drug campaign dubbed “Red Means Stop.”
The initiative, spearheaded by the Authority, forms part of a broader national effort to curb substance abuse among young people and promote responsible lifestyles across the country. By appointing Medikal, the NYA aims to leverage the musician’s wide appeal and influence within Ghana’s youth demographic to amplify awareness about the dangers of drug abuse.
According to officials, the “Red Means Stop” campaign is designed to educate young Ghanaians about the health, social, and economic consequences of illicit drug use. It will feature community outreach programmes, school engagements, media campaigns, and partnerships with stakeholders in health, education, and security sectors.
Medikal, known for his strong connection with the youth through music and social media, expressed appreciation for the appointment and pledged to use his platform to champion the cause. He emphasised the importance of making informed choices and encouraged young people to prioritise their futures over temporary thrills.
The National Youth Authority noted that substance abuse remains a growing concern, stressing that collaborative efforts between public figures, institutions, and communities are essential to reversing the trend. Officials believe Medikal’s involvement will significantly enhance the campaign’s visibility and impact nationwide.
The “Red Means Stop” initiative is expected to roll out fully in the coming weeks, with a series of events and engagements aimed at reinforcing the message that when it comes to drugs, the only safe choice is to stop.
