Ghana’s Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has embarked on a working visit to the Northern Region to verify the postings of medical doctors and assess the distribution of healthcare personnel across the region.
The visit forms part of the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to ensure transparency, accountability, and efficiency in the deployment of health professionals nationwide. It also seeks to confirm that doctors who have been officially posted to health facilities are present at their assigned stations and actively delivering services.
During the tour, the Minister is expected to engage with regional health directors, hospital administrators, and frontline medical staff to review staffing levels, identify gaps, and address challenges affecting healthcare delivery. The exercise aims to strengthen supervision mechanisms and ensure that underserved communities receive the medical attention they deserve.
Mr. Akandoh emphasised the government’s commitment to improving access to quality healthcare, particularly in remote and rural areas where shortages of medical personnel remain a persistent concern. He noted that accurate data on postings and staff presence is critical to effective planning and equitable resource allocation.
The verification exercise is also intended to reinforce discipline within the health sector and remove any discrepancies between official records and on-ground realities, as part of broader reforms to enhance efficiency and service delivery in Ghana’s healthcare system.
