The Mayor of Kumasi has pledged to enforce strict measures to ensure that the Kejetia Market remains free from highly inflammable materials, as part of efforts to prevent fire outbreaks and protect traders and property.
He stressed that city authorities will intensify inspections and strictly enforce safety regulations to stop the storage and sale of dangerous combustible items within the market premises. According to him, safeguarding lives and investments remains a top priority for the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly.
The mayor noted that recent fire incidents in various markets across the country serve as a reminder of the devastating impact of lax safety practices. He therefore called on traders to cooperate fully with officials and adhere to all fire safety guidelines.
He also indicated that offenders found violating the directive would face sanctions, as the Assembly is determined to maintain order and reduce fire risks at the bustling commercial hub.
The commitment, he said, forms part of a broader strategy to strengthen safety standards and promote a secure trading environment for all market users.
