Israel has launched a series of intense strikes targeting Iran’s internal security infrastructure, in what analysts say appears to be a calculated attempt to weaken the Islamic Republic’s ability to suppress dissent and potentially pave the way for internal unrest.
According to Israeli officials, the latest wave of attacks focused on command centers used by Iran’s powerful internal security forces responsible for monitoring and controlling protests across the country. The strikes reportedly targeted facilities linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and units associated with the Basij militia, both of which play key roles in maintaining domestic order and crushing anti-government demonstrations.
Israeli defense sources said the goal of the operation was not only to degrade Iran’s military capabilities but also to undermine the regime’s internal control mechanisms. By hitting security command hubs, Israel hopes to disrupt coordination among forces tasked with quelling protests, potentially creating openings for widespread civil unrest.
The strikes come amid escalating hostilities between Israel and Iran, which have traded military blows across multiple fronts in recent weeks. Israeli warplanes and long-range precision weapons reportedly hit facilities in and around major Iranian cities believed to house intelligence operations, surveillance systems, and command structures responsible for tracking opposition groups.
Security analysts say the internal security network is a cornerstone of the Iranian government’s survival strategy. The Basij and other security branches are frequently deployed during protests to disperse demonstrators, conduct arrests, and maintain tight control over the population.
An Israeli military spokesperson said the operation was designed to “strike the regime’s tools of repression,” adding that weakening those systems could make it harder for authorities in Tehran to respond to potential mass demonstrations.
Iranian state media acknowledged explosions in several locations but downplayed the impact, claiming that air defenses had intercepted some incoming threats. Officials in Tehran accused Israel of attempting to destabilize the country and warned that the attacks would be met with retaliation.
The Iranian government has long faced periodic waves of public protests over economic hardship, political restrictions and social freedoms. Demonstrations in recent years have been met with force by security agencies, with thousands arrested and numerous casualties reported by human rights groups.
Regional observers say Israel may be attempting to exploit internal tensions within Iran as the broader conflict intensifies. However, they caution that external military pressure does not always translate into domestic uprisings and could instead strengthen nationalist sentiment inside the country.
The latest escalation adds to fears that the confrontation between Israel and Iran could spiral into a wider regional conflict, drawing in allied militias and neighboring states already on edge from months of growing instability across the Middle East.
