The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has officially welcomed the recently passed 24-Hour Economy Law, describing it as a transformative step that is expected to significantly boost the country’s tourism sector, stimulate economic activity, and create new job opportunities for young Ghanaians.
In a statement released on Thursday, the GTA emphasized that the legislation, which allows businesses in key sectors to operate round-the-clock, will position Ghana as a vibrant and competitive destination for both local and international tourists. “The 24-Hour Economy Law is a game-changer for Ghana’s tourism industry,” the Authority said. “It opens the door for extended services, enhanced visitor experiences, and increased investment in hospitality, entertainment, and cultural sectors.”
According to the GTA, the law will particularly benefit hotels, restaurants, nightclubs, cultural centers, and transport services, enabling them to cater to a wider audience and extend operational hours to meet the growing demands of both domestic and foreign visitors. “Tourists increasingly expect a seamless and dynamic experience. With this law, Ghana can compete with other global destinations where 24-hour services are the norm,” the statement added.
Industry stakeholders have also expressed optimism, noting that the 24-Hour Economy initiative could drive job creation, encourage entrepreneurship, and enhance revenue generation. “This is not just about tourism; it’s about stimulating the broader economy,” said a senior official at the GTA. “From tour guides to chefs, drivers to entertainers, many young Ghanaians stand to benefit from this forward-looking policy.”
The GTA further highlighted that the law will encourage innovation in the service sector, prompting businesses to adopt new technologies, improve customer service, and diversify offerings to cater to a 24-hour market. Early implementation plans include guidelines for operational standards, safety protocols, and licensing requirements to ensure sustainable growth.
With the 24-Hour Economy Law now in effect, Ghana is poised to strengthen its position as a premier tourism hub in West Africa, attract foreign investment, and create a dynamic environment where business and leisure thrive around the clock.
