The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection has confirmed that an abandoned newborn discovered in Elmina in the Central Region has been successfully rescued and is currently receiving medical attention.
According to the Ministry, the infant was found by residents who promptly alerted local authorities. The child was subsequently transported to a nearby health facility, where medical professionals are monitoring the baby’s condition.
Baby in Stable Condition Under Medical Supervision
Officials disclosed that the newborn is responding well to treatment and is under close supervision to ensure full recovery. Health workers are conducting routine examinations and providing necessary care to safeguard the baby’s wellbeing.
The Ministry commended members of the public for their swift intervention, noting that their actions played a crucial role in saving the child’s life.
Social Welfare, Police Launch Investigations
The Department of Social Welfare, in collaboration with the Ghana Police Service, has launched investigations to identify and trace the person responsible for abandoning the child.
Authorities have assured the public that appropriate legal steps will be taken once investigations are concluded.
Government Reiterates Commitment to Child Protection
The Ministry reiterated government’s commitment to protecting vulnerable children and urged parents facing difficulties to seek support from social welfare offices rather than resorting to abandonment.
Officials further encouraged the public to report cases of child neglect or abuse to the relevant authorities to ensure timely intervention and protection.
The rescued newborn remains under medical care as arrangements are made to secure the child’s long-term safety and welfare.
