The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has ordered the closure of 16 restaurants in Accra, citing health and safety violations. Among the affected establishments are the popular The Cheesecake House and Alora Beach Resort, both frequented by locals and tourists alike.
According to the FDA, routine inspections revealed lapses in hygiene, food handling, and storage practices that posed significant risks to public health. Authorities emphasized that the closures are part of an ongoing effort to enforce strict food safety standards across the capital.
Restaurant owners have been directed to rectify the issues before being allowed to resume operations. The FDA has warned that repeat violations could result in permanent shutdowns and legal action.
Consumers are urged to exercise caution and check the FDA’s website for updates on restaurants cleared for safe operation.
