The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has assured the public that its electricity meters are accurate and functioning properly, amid growing concerns from customers over recent billing complaints.
In a statement addressing the issue, the power distributor acknowledged receiving feedback from some consumers who believe their bills do not reflect their actual power consumption. ECG, however, maintained that its metering systems undergo rigorous testing and meet approved regulatory standards.
According to the company, all installed meters are certified and calibrated before deployment to ensure they record electricity usage precisely. ECG explained that both prepaid and postpaid meters are subject to regular technical checks and verification processes to maintain accuracy and reliability.
The company encouraged customers who suspect discrepancies in their bills to formally lodge complaints at the nearest ECG office or through its customer service channels. It noted that such complaints are thoroughly investigated, and faulty meters—if identified—are promptly replaced at no cost to the customer.
ECG also emphasized that factors such as increased appliance usage, additional electrical installations, or seasonal changes in consumption patterns could contribute to higher bills. Customers were therefore advised to monitor their usage and practice energy conservation to manage costs effectively.
Reaffirming its commitment to transparency and customer satisfaction, ECG assured the public that it remains dedicated to delivering reliable power supply and maintaining trust through accurate billing systems.
The company further urged consumers to report illegal connections and meter tampering, warning that such practices not only distort billing but also pose safety risks and undermine the integrity of the national power distribution network.
