The Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture has called on young people across the country to seize the expanding opportunities within the agricultural sector, describing it as one of the most promising avenues for employment, entrepreneurship and national development.
Addressing participants at a youth engagement forum, the Deputy Minister stressed that agriculture is no longer limited to traditional farming practices but has evolved into a modern, technology-driven industry with vast potential across the entire value chain.
He noted that government policies and interventions are deliberately structured to make agriculture more attractive and profitable for the youth. According to him, investments in mechanisation, irrigation, agribusiness financing, and access to improved seedlings and inputs are creating a more enabling environment for young entrepreneurs.
“Agriculture today offers opportunities beyond the farm. From processing and packaging to marketing and export, the sector is rich with possibilities for innovation and wealth creation,” he said.
The Deputy Minister encouraged young graduates and school leavers not to view agriculture as a last-resort option but as a viable and rewarding career path capable of transforming lives and communities.
He further highlighted the role of digital tools and climate-smart technologies in boosting productivity and ensuring sustainability. He said young people, with their creativity and familiarity with technology, are well positioned to drive the modernization of Ghana’s agricultural landscape.
The government, he added, remains committed to supporting youth-led agribusinesses through training programmes, financial assistance, and partnerships with private sector players.
The call comes at a time when unemployment remains a key concern, with policymakers increasingly pointing to agriculture as a critical sector for job creation and economic diversification.
The Deputy Minister concluded by urging the youth to take bold steps, form cooperatives where necessary, and leverage available government support schemes to establish and expand their agricultural ventures.
