A delegation from the Christian Council of Ghana has paid a courtesy call on Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia following his election as the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The visit, which took place shortly after the party’s presidential primaries, was aimed at congratulating Dr. Bawumia on his victory and offering prayers and words of encouragement as he prepares for the 2024 general elections. Members of the delegation commended the peaceful conduct of the NPP’s internal election and urged political actors to uphold national unity and stability.
Speaking during the meeting, leaders of the Christian Council emphasized the need for issue-based campaigning and respectful political discourse in the lead-up to the national polls. They called on Dr. Bawumia to prioritize policies that promote social cohesion, economic stability, and the overall well-being of Ghanaians.
Dr. Bawumia expressed appreciation for the visit and the Council’s continued role in promoting peace and moral leadership in the country. He assured the delegation of his commitment to running a campaign anchored on integrity, development, and inclusivity.
He further highlighted the importance of collaboration between political leaders and faith-based organizations in addressing national challenges. According to him, Ghana’s democratic progress has been strengthened by the active involvement of religious institutions in advocating peace before, during, and after elections.
The meeting concluded with prayers for national peace, wisdom for political leaders, and a call for all stakeholders to work together to safeguard Ghana’s democracy as the country heads toward the next general election.
