The Member of Parliament for Bekwai has accused the NDC government of shortchanging cocoa farmers, alleging that recent policies and pricing decisions have unfairly disadvantaged producers across the country.
According to the MP, cocoa farmers are not receiving their fair share of proceeds despite the crop’s critical role in sustaining Ghana’s economy. He argued that the government has failed to implement measures that would adequately protect farmers’ incomes amid rising production costs and global market fluctuations.
The lawmaker further claimed that the current administration’s handling of the cocoa sector lacks transparency, insisting that farmers deserve clearer information on pricing structures and revenue distribution. He maintained that cocoa producers continue to struggle with high input costs, limited access to resources, and delayed payments.
Calling for urgent reforms, the Bekwai MP urged the government to prioritise the welfare of cocoa farmers and ensure that policies reflect their contributions to national development. He stressed that empowering farmers is essential not only for sustaining cocoa production but also for safeguarding rural livelihoods and foreign exchange earnings.
