Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance after Ghana battled to a 1-1 draw against Wales in an international friendly, praising the players’ commitment, resilience and tactical discipline throughout the encounter.
Speaking at his post-match press conference, Queiroz highlighted several positives from the game, describing the result as an important step in Ghana’s preparations for upcoming international assignments.
The Portuguese tactician commended his players for their determination against a strong Welsh side, noting that the team demonstrated character and unity despite facing periods of pressure during the match.
“I am very proud of the players. They showed commitment, discipline and a strong fighting spirit. We came here to test ourselves against a quality opponent and I believe the team responded very well,” Queiroz said.
The Black Stars held their own against the hosts, creating several opportunities while remaining organised defensively. According to Queiroz, the match provided valuable lessons that will help the technical team assess the squad ahead of future competitions.
He stressed that friendly matches are not only about results but also about evaluating players, testing tactical approaches and building cohesion within the squad.
“These games allow us to understand our strengths and identify areas that need improvement. We are building a team for the future and every match is an opportunity to grow,” he explained.
Queiroz also praised some of the younger players who were handed opportunities during the match, stating that competition for places remains healthy within the national team setup.
The coach noted that several players took advantage of the occasion to impress, adding that the technical team would continue monitoring performances as they work towards assembling the strongest possible squad.
On Ghana’s attacking display, Queiroz acknowledged that there were moments when the Black Stars could have been more clinical in front of goal. However, he expressed confidence that the team’s finishing would improve with more time together on the training ground.
“We created chances and showed good movement going forward. Of course, we always want to score more goals, but overall I am encouraged by what I saw,” he stated.
The former international coach also thanked Ghanaian supporters who travelled to cheer on the team, saying their presence and encouragement continue to motivate the players.
Looking ahead, Queiroz insisted that the Black Stars remain focused on their long-term objectives and will continue working hard to improve in every department.
“We are on a journey. The most important thing is to keep improving, remain humble and continue building a team that Ghanaians can be proud of,” he concluded.
The draw against Wales extends Ghana’s preparations for upcoming international fixtures, with the technical team expected to review the performance and make further assessments as the Black Stars continue their rebuilding process.
