Waste management company Zoomlion Ghana Limited has strongly rejected findings contained in the Auditor-General’s report on expenditures related to the 2023 African Games, insisting that there was no double billing, missing documentation, or financial irregularities in its dealings with the event.
In a statement responding to concerns raised in the audit report, the company maintained that all services rendered during the continental sporting event were properly executed, documented, and verified by the appropriate state institutions before payments were processed.
Zoomlion explained that its role during the African Games involved extensive sanitation and waste management operations across various venues, including cleaning, fumigation, waste evacuation, and emergency environmental services throughout the duration of the competition.
According to the company, every invoice submitted was tied to specific services carried out under contractual agreements and approved by the relevant authorities. It therefore described allegations of duplicate charges and unaccounted records as inaccurate and misleading.

“The claims suggesting double billing or missing records do not reflect the true nature of the transactions and services provided,” the company stressed, adding that it remains committed to transparency and accountability in all public engagements.
Zoomlion further indicated that supporting documents, operational reports, attendance records, deployment schedules, and verification forms were available and could be produced whenever required.
The company also emphasized that the scale of the African Games required intensive sanitation operations to maintain international standards and ensure a safe environment for athletes, officials, and spectators.
The Auditor-General’s report had reportedly raised questions over some expenditures linked to the Games, including concerns about documentation and possible duplication of payments involving certain contractors.
However, Zoomlion insists the audit observations may have resulted from misunderstandings regarding the structure of the contracts and the nature of services delivered at different venues and periods during the Games.
The company reaffirmed its willingness to cooperate with any further review or clarification process, while urging the public not to draw premature conclusions from the audit findings.
Zoomlion added that it remains focused on supporting national development initiatives and maintaining its reputation as one of Ghana’s leading waste management service providers.
