The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has issued a nationwide weather alert for Tuesday, May 26, 2026, warning Ghanaians to brace for possible thunderstorms, moderate to heavy rainfall, and strong winds across several parts of the country.
According to the agency, cloudy conditions are expected to dominate many regions during the early hours of the day, with mist and fog patches likely over forest and mountainous areas. As the day progresses, temperatures are expected to rise before giving way to afternoon and evening thunderstorms in parts of southern, middle, and northern Ghana.
GMet indicated that some of the storms could be accompanied by intense rainfall and gusty winds capable of causing temporary flooding, reduced visibility, and disruptions to transport and outdoor activities. Coastal communities are also expected to experience intermittent rains and occasional thunder.
Residents in flood-prone areas have been advised to remain alert and avoid walking or driving through flooded roads during heavy downpours. Motorists have also been urged to exercise caution due to slippery roads and poor visibility during storm periods.
The agency further cautioned fishermen and individuals engaging in outdoor activities to closely monitor weather conditions throughout the day, especially in areas expected to experience severe thunderstorms.
The alert forms part of GMet’s ongoing efforts to keep the public informed during the peak rainy season, as changing weather patterns continue to raise concerns over flash floods and storm-related incidents in parts of the country.
Authorities are encouraging the public to follow official weather updates and safety advisories as conditions evolve during the day.
