The National Chairman of the People’s National Convention has called on security agencies to immediately arrest the National Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party over what he describes as inflammatory comments and conduct that could threaten public peace and national security.
According to the PNC Chairman, the alleged remarks made by the NPP Youth Organiser were reckless, provocative and capable of escalating political tensions if swift action is not taken by law enforcement authorities. He argued that the country’s laws must apply equally to all political actors regardless of their status or party affiliation.
Speaking during an interview, the PNC Chairman expressed concern about what he described as growing political intolerance and the increasing use of aggressive rhetoric in Ghana’s political environment. He warned that failure to address such incidents decisively could embolden others to engage in similar behaviour ahead of future political activities.
He further urged the Ghana Police Service and other security institutions to demonstrate neutrality and professionalism by investigating the matter thoroughly and taking appropriate legal action where necessary. According to him, maintaining peace and protecting democratic stability should remain a priority for the country’s security agencies.
The comments have since generated reactions among supporters of both major political parties, with some defending the NPP Youth Organiser while others insist that political leaders must be held accountable for statements capable of inciting unrest.
Meanwhile, the NPP has yet to officially respond to the PNC Chairman’s demand for the arrest of its Youth Organiser. Political observers say the issue could further intensify partisan debate in the coming days as discussions around political conduct and accountability continue to dominate public discourse.
The latest development adds to growing concerns about heated political commentary in Ghana’s democratic space, with many stakeholders calling for restraint, responsible communication and respect for the rule of law from all political actors.
