The Ministry of Transport is reportedly finalising a strategic roadmap aimed at guiding the deployment of buses across the country as part of efforts to improve public transportation and ease the daily commuting challenges faced by many Ghanaians.

The initiative is expected to outline how newly acquired and existing buses will be distributed and managed to ensure efficiency, accessibility, and sustainability within the transport sector. Officials say the roadmap will also help identify priority routes, high-demand areas, and operational structures needed to maximise the impact of the deployment programme.

According to sources within the transport sector, the plan forms part of broader government efforts to modernise public transportation, reduce pressure on commercial transport operators, and provide safer and more reliable travel options for commuters.

The roadmap is also expected to address maintenance systems, driver training, fuel management, and partnerships with transport unions and local authorities to ensure smooth implementation. Authorities believe a well-coordinated deployment strategy could significantly reduce congestion in major urban centres while improving movement between communities.

Stakeholders in the transport industry have welcomed the move, describing it as a potentially important step toward strengthening Ghana’s public transport system. Some transport experts have, however, urged the ministry to prioritise transparency, proper monitoring, and long-term maintenance to avoid challenges that affected similar initiatives in the past.

The Ministry of Transport is expected to provide further details on timelines, routes, and the scale of the deployment once consultations and planning processes are completed. Many commuters are hopeful the programme will eventually lead to more affordable, comfortable, and dependable transportation services nationwide.
