Calls for accountability within Ghana’s public institutions have intensified as Johnson Asiedu Nketia has urged a thorough investigation into a series of fire outbreaks affecting state facilities, warning that any acts of sabotage must be exposed and dealt with decisively.

Speaking on the growing concern over recurrent fires in key government establishments, the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) stressed the need for transparency and swift action to restore public confidence. He noted that while some of the incidents may be accidental, the pattern raises questions that cannot be ignored.

Mr. Asiedu Nketia emphasized that state institutions play a critical role in national development and governance, and any threat to their safety undermines the country’s stability. According to him, allowing such incidents to go uninvestigated could embolden individuals or groups who may seek to disrupt public administration for personal or political gain.

He called on relevant security agencies, including the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana National Fire Service, to collaborate closely in probing the causes of the fires. He further urged that findings from such investigations be made public to ensure accountability and deter future occurrences.

The NDC Chairman also appealed to workers within state institutions to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities that could compromise the safety of their workplaces. He stressed that safeguarding public property is a shared responsibility that requires cooperation between authorities and citizens.

Mr. Asiedu Nketia concluded by reiterating that if any form of sabotage is uncovered, those responsible must face the full rigours of the law, regardless of their status or affiliations. He maintained that protecting state assets is essential to preserving Ghana’s democratic institutions and ensuring national progress.
