Newly appointed Ghana head coach Carlos Queiroz has confirmed that he will retain key members of the Black Stars’ technical team as part of efforts to ensure stability and continuity ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Speaking after officially assuming his role, the experienced Portuguese tactician emphasized the importance of building on existing structures rather than starting from scratch. He noted that maintaining elements of the previous technical setup would help create a smoother transition as Ghana intensifies preparations for the global showpiece.
Queiroz also took time to commend his predecessor, Otto Addo, for his contributions to the national team. According to him, Addo laid a solid foundation that can be further developed to achieve success on the international stage.
“I have great respect for the work done by Otto Addo. He brought discipline, commitment, and belief into the team. My responsibility now is to build on that and take the Black Stars to the next level,” Queiroz said.
The former Real Madrid and Iran coach stressed that unity within the technical team and squad will be crucial as Ghana looks to secure a strong performance at the World Cup. He added that blending local knowledge with his international experience would be key to unlocking the team’s full potential.
Queiroz’s decision to keep parts of the backroom staff has been widely interpreted as a move to maintain continuity, particularly as several players have already adapted to the existing system. It is also expected to ease communication and tactical implementation as preparations gather pace.
With qualifiers and international friendlies on the horizon, Queiroz is set to begin immediate assessments of the squad, while working closely with retained staff to refine strategies and strengthen team cohesion.
Ghana will be aiming to make a significant impact at the 2026 tournament, and Queiroz’s experience at multiple World Cups is seen as a valuable asset in guiding the Black Stars toward that ambition.
