The people of Boso in the Eastern Region have officially launched the 2026 edition of the Odweegyi Festival, with a strong call for unity, peace, and the preservation of their rich cultural heritage.
The colourful launch event, held in Boso, brought together traditional authorities, community leaders, youth groups, and residents, all united in their commitment to uphold the values and traditions that define the Odweegyi Festival.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Paramount Chief of the area underscored the importance of the festival as a symbol of identity and a platform for fostering unity among the people. He urged indigenes both at home and in the diaspora to actively participate in this year’s celebration and contribute to the development of the community.
He noted that beyond the festivities, Odweegyi serves as a reminder of the community’s history, struggles, and achievements, and must be preserved for future generations. According to him, cultural heritage remains a vital tool for social cohesion and sustainable development.
The planning committee also outlined a series of activities scheduled for the festival, including traditional rites, cultural performances, clean-up exercises, durbars of chiefs, and community development initiatives. These events, they said, are designed not only to celebrate tradition but also to promote tourism and economic activity in the area.
Organisers used the occasion to call on corporate bodies, government agencies, and well-meaning individuals to support the festival to ensure its success. They stressed that collective effort is needed to elevate the festival to greater heights and make it a major cultural attraction in Ghana.
