The Minister of Communications and Digitalisation, Sam George, has assured Parliament that the ongoing SIM card re-registration exercise will be both free of charge and secure for all mobile subscribers across Ghana.

Addressing lawmakers, Mr. George explained that the government has implemented robust measures to protect the personal information of citizens during the re-registration process. “No Ghanaian will be charged for re-registering their SIM cards, and the security of your data is our top priority,” he emphasized.

The minister also highlighted that the exercise is aimed at improving national security, curbing fraud, and enhancing the efficiency of telecommunications services in the country. He encouraged all mobile users to participate in the re-registration exercise within the stipulated timelines to avoid service disruptions.

Mr. George’s assurance comes amid concerns from some members of the public about potential costs and privacy risks associated with SIM re-registration. He reiterated that the government remains committed to making the process simple, accessible, and fully secure.
