Accra, Ghana — In a celebration befitting one of Ghana’s oldest and most prestigious educational institutions, Mfantsipim Senior High School officially launched its 150th anniversary festivities on Friday, March 20, 2026, unveiling specially‑designed commemorative cloth and original anniversary songs that reflect the school’s storied past and its aspirations for the future. The event, held at the Atrium of the World Trade Centre in Accra, drew a distinguished audience of alumni, students, school partners and stakeholders united in honouring a century and a half of excellence in education.

The beautifully crafted anniversary cloth — featuring designs steeped in symbolism and institutional heritage — was showcased amidst much pride, its patterns and colours chosen to represent the rich traditions and enduring legacy of Mfantsipim. Accompanying the cloth’s debut were two original songs composed to commemorate the milestone: a choral piece serving as the official anthem of the sesquicentennial and a spirited “Jama” tune celebrating the vibrancy, brotherhood and collective identity of the school community. Both musical pieces captivated the audience with their inspiring melodies and poignant messages.

The launch also served as a platform for fundraising to support ongoing development efforts at Mfantsipim, particularly the facelift and rehabilitation of ageing infrastructure. At the event, organisers announced that over one million Ghanaian cedis had already been raised toward these initiatives, reaffirming alumni and stakeholder commitment to securing the school’s future.

Winners of the competition to create the anniversary songs and cloth were recognised for their outstanding contributions. Among those honoured were Benjamin Aaron Nattey, Derek Akohene Tetteh, Flora Adokoh, Ace Anan Ankomah and Alfred Gyan, whose creative works were selected for their resonance with Mfantsipim’s heritage and vision.

In remarks at the ceremony, Captain John Yamoah, Chairman of the 150th Anniversary Planning Committee, expressed heartfelt appreciation for the unflagging support that has sustained the institution for 150 years. He urged the school’s vast alumni network to intensify efforts toward reviving Mfantsipim’s infrastructure and enhancing its facilities so the school can continue to thrive as a beacon of academic excellence and national pride.

Echoing the celebratory yet forward‑looking tone of the occasion, Moses Baiden Jnr, Ebusuapanyin of Mfantsipim, said the milestone represents “not an end but a beginning,” celebrating past achievements while inspiring future generations to uphold the school’s values of leadership, service and academic distinction.

The launch of the anniversary songs and commemorative cloth is the first major highlight in a year‑long calendar of events planned to culminate in grand national celebrations later in 2026. For many in attendance, the event was both a nostalgic reflection on the school’s historic legacy and a clarion call for collective effort to secure a vibrant future for one of Ghana’s most cherished educational institutions.
