The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has terminated its Fixed Base Operation (FBO) concession agreement with McDan Aviation at the Kotoka International Airport, citing the company’s failure to settle outstanding debts despite several engagements.

In a statement issued by GACL, the company explained that the decision followed prolonged discussions and repeated notices to McDan Aviation to clear its financial obligations under the concession agreement. According to GACL, the persistent indebtedness constituted a breach of the terms of the agreement governing the operation of the private jet terminal.

GACL said it had exercised patience and offered multiple opportunities for the aviation services company to regularise its indebtedness, but the situation remained unresolved.

“After extensive engagements and notices, the company has failed to meet its financial obligations as stipulated in the concession agreement. Consequently, the Ghana Airports Company Limited has terminated the Fixed Base Operation agreement with McDan Aviation,” the statement noted.

The termination affects McDan Aviation’s management and operation of the private jet terminal at Kotoka International Airport, which functions as a Fixed Base Operator providing services such as aircraft handling, passenger facilitation, and ground support for private and chartered flights.

GACL emphasised that the decision was taken in line with the provisions of the concession agreement and forms part of efforts to ensure strict compliance with contractual obligations by all partners operating within the country’s aviation infrastructure.

The airport operator also assured stakeholders and the travelling public that the move would not disrupt operations at the private jet terminal. According to the company, interim operational arrangements have been put in place to ensure that services for private jet passengers and operators continue without interruption.

The statement further reaffirmed GACL’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and prudent management of national aviation assets.

McDan Aviation, a subsidiary of the McDan Group, has been one of the key private aviation service providers in Ghana, offering charter services, aircraft management, and handling services for business and private aviation.

As of the time of the announcement, McDan Aviation had not publicly responded to the termination of the agreement. GACL, however, indicated that it remains open to working with partners who meet their financial and operational obligations in accordance with the regulatory framework governing airport concessions in Ghana.
