The Old Tafo Municipal Assembly has rolled out a targeted support programme to empower Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), providing livelihood items aimed at improving economic independence and social inclusion within the municipality.
The initiative, which forms part of the Assembly’s commitment to inclusive development, saw beneficiaries receive tools and equipment tailored to their individual trades and skills, including items to support small-scale businesses and vocational activities.

Officials of the Assembly said the support is intended to help PWDs build sustainable sources of income, reduce dependency and actively participate in the local economy.
“Disability should never be a barrier to opportunity,” an Assembly representative stated. “This intervention is about giving our brothers and sisters the means to earn a living with dignity.”
Beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the gesture, describing the items as timely and life-changing, especially at a time when economic pressures have made it difficult for vulnerable groups to sustain their livelihoods.

The Assembly also used the occasion to reaffirm its dedication to properly disbursing the Disability Common Fund, ensuring that resources meant for PWDs are used transparently and for their intended purpose.

Community leaders and disability advocates praised the move, urging other local authorities to emulate Old Tafo’s example by prioritising inclusive policies that translate into real, practical support.
As the livelihood items are put to use, the Old Tafo Municipal Assembly says it will continue to monitor the programme’s impact, with the broader goal of empowering PWDs to live independently and contribute meaningfully to community development.
