The Assistant Northern Regional Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Aniwaba K.B. Jeremiah, has criticized recent statements made by Abetifi MP and presidential candidate hopeful, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, which associate the party’s potential defeat in 2024 with “tribal dynamics” surrounding Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s candidacy.
In a statement, Mr. Aniwaba characterized these comments as “unguided and inappropriate,” contending that they undermine the NPP’s principles of unity, tolerance, and maturity.
He called upon the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) and National Council (NC) to reprimand Dr. Acheampong and demanded a full apology to the Ghanaian public and the NPP.
He indicated that such divisive remarks could jeopardize grassroots confidence and weaken the cohesion of the party.
“The NPP has consistently drawn its strength from inclusivity, welcoming citizens from all regions and backgrounds. Any statement that aims to divide us along ethnic lines is counterproductive and harmful to the party’s prospects,” he stated.
Mr. Aniwaba also encouraged aspirants to follow the example set by former Vice President Dr. Bawumia, praising his humility, inclusive leadership, and dedication to peaceful politics.
He emphasized that discipline, respect, and unity are the most reliable means for the NPP to maintain the trust of the Ghanaian people.
